THE STORY OF ALI BABA AND THE FORTY ROBBERS DESTROYED BY A SLAVE.
علی بابا و چهل دزد كه توسط غلامی از بین رفتند.
In
a town in Persia, there lived two brothers, one named Cassim, the other
Ali Baba. Their father left them scarcely any thing; and he had divided
his little property equally between them, but chance determined
otherwise.
در
یكی از شهرهای ایران دو برادر زندگی میكردند اسم یكی كاظم و نام دیگری
علی بابا بود. پدرشان برای آنها چیزهای اندكی را باقی گذاشته بود و دارائی
اندك خودش را به نحو كاملا مساوی بین آندو تقسیم كرده بود ولی بخت به گونه
دیگری با آنها رفتار كرد.
Cassim married a wife who soon after became heiress to a large sum, and a warehouse full of rich goods; so that he all at once became one of the richest and most considerable merchants, and lived at his ease.
كاظم
با زنی ازدواج كرد كه به زودی مبلغ بسیاری و انباری پر از اجناس گرانقیمت
را به ارث برد. بنابراین او با یك چشم به هم زدن تبدیل به یكی از
ثروتمندترین و قابل ملاحظه ترین تاجران شد و در راحتی زندگی میكرد.

1- heiress: a woman who will receive or has received a lot of money or property when an older member of her family dies.
زن وارث؛ زن كه ارث برده است.
2- warehouse: a large building for storing large quantities of goods.
Ali Baba on the other hand, who had married a woman as poor as himself, lived in a very wretched
habitation, and had no other means to maintain his wife and children
but his daily labour of cutting wood, and bringing it upon three asses,
which were his whole substance, to town to sell.
از
طرف دیگر علی بابا با زن دیگری كه مانند خودش فقیر بود ازدواج كرد و زندگی
بسیار فلاكت باری داشت و بجز كار روزانه اش كه چوب درختان را می برید و
برای فروش در شهر بر روی سه الاغ كه تمام دارائی اش بود وسیله دیگری برای
ادامه زندگی زن و بچه هایش نداشت

One
day, when Ali Baba was in the forest, and had just cut wood enough to
load his asses, he saw at a distance a great cloud of dust, which
seemed to be driven towards him: he observed it very attentively, and distinguished soon after a body of horse.
یك
روز وقتی علی بابا در جنگل بود و به اندازه كافی چوب بریده بود كه بار
الاغها كند در فاصله دور ابری از غبار را مشاهده كرد كه به نظر می آمد به
طرف او حركت میكند. او با نهایت دقت آن را زیر نظر گرفت و پس از اندكی
توانست اسبی را در آن میان ببیند.

Though
there had been no rumour of robbers in that country, Ali Baba began to
think that they might prove such, and without considering what might
become of his asses, was resolved to save himself.
هرچند
كه در آن دیار شایعه وجود راهزنان وجود نداشت ولی علی بابا با خود اندیشید
كه شاید آنها راهزن باشند و بدون توجه به اینكه چه اتفاقی ممكن است برای
الاغهایش بیافتد تصمیم گرفت كه خودش را از خطر برهاند.
He
climbed up a large, thick tree, whose branches, at a little distance
from the ground, were so close to one another that there was but little
space between them. He placed himself in the middle, from whence he could see all that passed without being discovered; and the tree stood at the base of a single rock, so steep and craggy that nobody could climb up it.
او
از درختی بزرگ و ضخیم بالا رفت كه شاخه هایش كه در نزدیكی زمین بود آنچنان
به هم نزدیك بودند كه فقط فضای اندكی در میان آنها باقی مانده بود و او
خود را در میان آنها جای داد از جائی كه همه آنهائی كه رد میشدند را میدید
بدون آنكه كسی او را ببیند و درخت هم در زیر تخته سنگی بود كه آنقدر پرشیب
و ناهموار بود كه كسی نمیتوانست از آن بالا رود.

6- craggy: a mountain that is craggy is very steep and covered in rough rocks
The
troop, who were all well mounted and armed, came to the foot of this
rock, and there dismounted. Ali Baba counted forty of them, and, from
their looks and equipage, was assured that they were robbers.
آن
دسته كه كاملا سوار و مسلح بودند به پای آن تخته سنگ رسیدند و پیاده شدند.
علی بابا 40 تا از ایشان را شمرد و از ظاهر و تجهیزات آنها مطمئن بود كه
آنها راهزن هستند.

Nor was he mistaken in his opinion: for they were a troop of banditti, who, without doing any harm to the neighbourhood, robbed at a distance, and made that place their rendezvous; but what confirmed him in his opinion was, that every man unbridled his horse, tied him to some shrub, and hung about his neck a bag of corn which they brought
او
در عقیده اش اشتباه نكرده بود برای اینكه آنها از راهزنانی بودند كه بدون
آسیب رساندن به اهالی منطقه در فاصله ای دست به دزدی زده بودند و آن منطقه
را پاتوق خود قرار داده بودند ولی چیزی كه عقیده اش را
تائید میكرد این بود كه هر كدام از ایشان بند اسب را رها كرد و آن را به
بوته ای بست و بر گردنش كیسه ای از ذرت كه آورده بود آویخت.

راهزنان؛ دزدان؛ غارتگران

بند چیزی را رها كردن؛ افسار چیزی را باز كردن
Then each of them took his saddle bag,
which seemed to Ali Baba to be full of gold and silver from its weight.
One, who was the most personable amongst them, and whom he took to be
their captain, came with his bag on his back under the tree in which
Ali Baba was concealed,
and making his way through some shrubs, pronounced these words so
distinctly, "Open, Sesame," that Ali Baba heard him. As soon as the
captain of the robbers had uttered these words, a door opened in the
rock; and after he had made all his troop enter before him, he followed
them, when the door shut again of itself.
سپس
هر یك از ایشان خورجینش را برداشت كه به نظر علی بابا از لحاظ وزنی كه
داشتند پر از طلا و نقره بود. یكی از ایشان كه در میان آنها از شخصیت
بیشتری برخوردار بود و به نظر علی بابا رئیس آنها بود با خورجینش كه بر
دوشش بود به زیر درختی آمد كه علی بابا در آن مخفی شده بود و در میان
تعدادی بوته به جلو رفت و كاملا شفاف كه علی بابا شنید این كلمات را تلفظ
كرد: (باز شو سسمی) به محض اینكه سركرده آن
راهزنان این كلمات را گفت میان صخره دری باز شد و سپس بعد از آنكه او همه
آن گروه را قبل از خودش داخل نمود خودش وارد شد و در خودش بسته شد.

The
robbers stayed some time within the rock, and Ali Baba, who feared that
some one, or all of them together, might come out and catch him, if he
should endeavour to make his escape, was obliged to sit patiently in the tree.
راهزنان
اندكی در میان صخره ماندند و علی بابا كه میترسید كه اگر سعی كند كه فرار
نماید یكی از ایشان یا تمامی آنها با هم بیرون بیایند و او را بگیرند،
مجبور شد كه صبورانه در میان درخت بماند.

He
was nevertheless tempted to get down, mount one of their horses, and
lead another, driving his asses before him with all the haste he could
to town; but the uncertainty of the event made him choose the safest
course.
با
این وجود وسوسه شد كه پائین بیاید و بر یكی از آن اسبها سوار شود و هدایت
یكی دیگر از آن اسبها را هم بدست بگیرد و الاغهایش در پشت سر را با نهایت
شتابی كه میتوانست به سمت شهر ببرد. نامعلوم بودن وضعیت مجبورش كرد كه امن
ترین راه را انتخاب كند.
At
last the door opened again, and the forty robbers came out. As the
captain went in last, he came out first, and stood to see them all pass
by him; when Ali Baba heard him make the door close by pronouncing
these words, "Shut, Sesame." Every man went and bridled his horse,
fastened his bag, and mounted again; and when the captain saw them all
ready, he put himself at their head, and they returned the way they had
come.
سرانجام
درب باز شد و تمامی آن 40 دزد بیرون آمدند و همانطور كه رئیس ایشان آخرین
نفر بود كه به درون رفت اولین نفری بود كه بیرون آمد و ایستاد تا همه را
ببیند كه از جلوی او عبور میكنند. علی بابا شنید كه او با گفتن این كلمات
كه (بسته شو سسمی) در را بست. همه آنها رفتند و افسار اسب را گرفتند
خورجینها را محكم كردند و دوباره سوار شدند و وقتی رئیس دید همه آماده اند
در جلو رفت و آنها از همان راهی كه آمده بودند باز گشتند.
Ali
Baba did not immediately quit his tree; for, said he to himself, they
may have forgotten something and may come back again, and then I shall
be taken. He followed them with his eyes as far as he could see them;
and afterwards stayed a considerable time before he descended.
علی
بابا بلافاصله درخت را ترك نكرد چون با خودش گفت آنها ممكن است چیزی را
فراموش كرده باشند و دوباره برگردند از این رو ممكن است گرفتار شوم. او تا
آنجا كه میتوانست آنها ببیند با چشمانش ایشان را تعقیب كرد و سپس قبل از
پائین آمدن به مقدار زمان قابل ملاحظه ای درنگ كرد.
Remembering
the words the captain of the robbers used to cause the door to open and
shut, he had the curiosity to try if his pronouncing them would have
the same effect. Accordingly, he went among the shrubs, and perceiving the door concealed behind them, stood before it, and said, "Open, Sesame." The door instantly flew wide open.
علی
بابا درحالیكه كلماتی را كه رئیس راهزنان برای باز و بسته كردن در به كار
برده بود به خاطرش سپرده بود اشتیاق بسیاری داشت كه امتحان كند آیا تلفظ
آن كلمات همان اثر مشابه را دارد. از این رو به میان بوته ها رفت و دریافت
كه درب در پشت بوته ها مخفی است. در مقابل آن ایستاد و گفت: (باز شو سسمی)
درب بلافاصله كاملا باز شد.

درك كردن؛ متوجه شدن؛ دریافتن.
Ali Baba, who expected a dark dismal cavern, was surprised to see it well lighted and spacious, in form of a vault, which received the light from an opening at the top of the rock.
علی
بابا كه انتظار داشت كه غار تاریك و دلگیری را ببیند، متعجب شد كه دید
كاملا روشن و جادار است. به شكل گنبد مانندی كه نوری را از یك مدخلی كه در
بالای صخره وجود داشت دریافت میكرد.
